Globe Business boosts Shell Eco-Marathon Asia as local connectivity partner

Globe Business, the enterprise information and communication technology (ICT) arm of Globe Telecom, is once again named as the local connectivity partner for Shell Eco-Marathon Asia, the annual street circuit challenge for the youth which will be held at the Rizal Park in Manila from March 3-6, 2016 as part of its advocacy to protect and conserve the environment.

As connectivity partner, Globe Business will provide internet connectivity at the 4-day event which will pave the way for seamless exchange of data and information for over 100 teams of young student engineers from more than 15 countries around the world. The teams will be challenged to design and build their own cars of the future that run the farthest distance with the least possible amount of fuel.

“We are thrilled to be the local connectivity partner for this year’s Shell Eco-Marathon Asia,” shares Globe Senior Advisor for Enterprise and IT-Enabled Services Group Mike Frausing. “Shell Eco-Marathon Asia’s goal to cultivate innovation among the youth and promote the development of technology for environmental sustainability greatly resonates to our sustainability efforts and the innovative culture that Globe espouses.”
“With our participation as connectivity partner for this year’s Shell Eco-Marathon Asia, we are confident that the participants and attendees alike will experience fast and stable internet connectivity powered by Globe Business, enhanced by the different mobility devices that we offer,” added Cindy Salaya, Vice President for Enterprise Product Management.
Globe Business has actively embraced environmental sustainability and is working closely with enterprises which share this advocacy on various fronts. This includes creating greater scale and impact for the telco’s programs on solid waste management via its large-scale initiative “Project 1 Phone,” energy conservation with its participation to the Earth Hour and Earth Day celebrations, carbon offsetting through the successful Cordillera Challenge, as well as biodiversity and habitat protection by partnering with organizations such as the Philippine Eagle Foundation which aided the rehabilitation of Philippine Eagle Pamana.
Shell Eco-Marathon Asia is a unique competition that challenges students around the world to design, build and drive the most energy-efficient car. The competition dates back to 1939, has come a long way from its beginnings and has become an avenue for students to expand their ideas and hone their talents to become future innovators of the world. The event has also been a valuable opportunity for collaborations and multi-sectoral partnerships between other like-minded organizations to strengthen the reach of this advocacy.

Scientific fact: Women are more attracted to men with facial hair

Science says it. Men with facial hair are more attractive. A study in the 70s and two more recent ones conducted by Neave and Shields in 2008 and Dixson and Brooks in 2013 all came up with the same conclusion: Most women find men with a stubble or a five-o’clock shadow very, very attractive.   Although the women’s perception of male attractiveness changed according to the amount and length of men’s facial hair, most women in the study found men with a moderate amount of facial hair to be the most attractive. Some women did prefer men with no facial hair, but to the majority, men with no facial hair were not very attractive and seemed the least likely romantic partners. Women perceived full bearded men to be aggressive, more mature and a bit too much to handle.
