The Nutrilite Global Phytonutrient Report: Color Coded Good Health

Billions of dollars are spent year after year on finding new ways to synthesize cures for heart disease, cancer, and a host of other diseases and ailments that plague humanity.  The truth of the matter is that everything we need to prevent and combat these diseases has always been provided by natural foods in the exact form that we harvest them, all we need to do is to figure out exactly what we need to eat, and in what quantities.  The recently published Nutrilite Global Phytonutrient Report in the British Journal of Nutrition, gives us a “color-by-numbers” guide to proper nutrition.

We’ve known for some time that the key to good health lies mostly in a good diet, and that generous portions of fruits and vegetables are an indispensible component of a good diet.  Exactly how much is enough though?  Experts put the amount at roughly 400 grams of fruits and vegetables a day.  Which fruits and vegetables are best?  Experts agree that a proper diet should contain a varied selection of fruits and vegetables.  An assertion echoed by one of the key insights of the report:  “Both quantity and
variety of fruits and vegetables are necessary to obtain the maximum benefit from what we eat.”

With the recent publication of the Nutrilite Global Phytonutrient Report it is now possible to tailor fit fruit and vegetable intake to achieve specific health goals.  We now know that specific colors of fruits and vegetables typically indicate the abundance of specific phytonutrients, and that specific phytonutrients have specific health benefits, for instance:  Greens such as Spinach, Lettuce and Broccoli contain Lutein/ Zeaxanthin which is good for vision, whites such as apples and onions contain Quercetin that helps with Blood vessel and heart health as well as bone and joint health.

While we now have a much better idea of the specific types of phytonutrients and which fruits and vegetables have abundant amounts of them, the report also stresses:  “Many plant-based foods including fruits and vegetables contain a number of different phytonutrients, even if they have been studied primarily for just one or two.  That is why there is not only a need to increase consumption of fruits and vegetables in general, but also to increase variety to ensure the best possible benefits.”

The bad news is that the report found that among respondents surveyed in the US and Korea,  60%-87% do not consume the minimum amount of 400 gms. of fruits and vegetables daily.  There were several reasons cited for this deficiency such as availability or lack of certain types of fruits and vegetables in certain regions, schedule constraints, and dietary preferences.  It is precisely for those who for one reason or another can’t consume the proper amount of fruits and vegetables that Nutrilite develops a varied and ever improving range of supplements.

Nutrilite is the global leader in health supplements and the inventor of vitamin supplements. Nutrilite founder Carl Rehnborg was the first to discover and identify phytonutrients in plants and link these to specific benefits.  Much of what we know about Nutrition today is from the pioneering research of Carl Rehnborg and Nutrilite.

Wholly acquired by direct selling pioneer and leader Amway in 1972,  Nutrilite products are readily available in every corner of the world and the Philippines, few understand nutrition the way that Nutrilite does, and fewer still can boast of having contributed as much as Nutrilite towards advancing what we know about nutrition.  No matter your age, lifestyle, diet, or expectation, there are Nutrilite products out there that can help you set and achieve your health and fitness goals.  "Because we all have unique health requirements that change as we go through life, Nutrilite offers a wide variety of supplements." Says Leni Olmeda,

Ultimately however, while supplements are great at helping us address nutrition gaps, there is really no substitute for a good, nutritious diet.  To find out more about how you can improve your diet, check out the Nutrilite Global Phytonutrient Report at: http://www.nutrilite.com/en-us/Media/AmericaPhytonutrientReport.pdf

Scientific fact: Women are more attracted to men with facial hair

Science says it. Men with facial hair are more attractive. A study in the 70s and two more recent ones conducted by Neave and Shields in 2008 and Dixson and Brooks in 2013 all came up with the same conclusion: Most women find men with a stubble or a five-o’clock shadow very, very attractive.   Although the women’s perception of male attractiveness changed according to the amount and length of men’s facial hair, most women in the study found men with a moderate amount of facial hair to be the most attractive. Some women did prefer men with no facial hair, but to the majority, men with no facial hair were not very attractive and seemed the least likely romantic partners. Women perceived full bearded men to be aggressive, more mature and a bit too much to handle.
